The Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre (TAC) is a community‑controlled organisation delivering culturally strong services that support Tasmanian Aboriginal people to exercise self‑determination. Our Aboriginal Children’s Centre provides safe, nurturing and culturally grounded early learning for Aboriginal children and families.
About the Role
We are seeking a Qualified Educator (Diploma) to provide leadership within our Aboriginal Children’s Centre at piyura kitina (Risdon Cove).
This role supports and leads the delivery of high‑quality, culturally appropriate, play‑based learning programs for children aged 0–5 years.
Working collaboratively under the guidance of the Director and Assistant Director, you will play a key role in promoting children’s wellbeing, rights and strong cultural identity while supporting and guiding other educators.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of a culturally safe, nurturing and stimulating learning environment
- Plan, implement and evaluate high‑quality programs for children aged 0–5
- Embed Aboriginal culture, identity and heritage across daily practice
- Build strong, respectful relationships with children, families and community
- Uphold children’s rights, wellbeing, safety and supervision
- Provide leadership, guidance and positive role modelling to educators, students and volunteers
- Oversee documentation, compliance and regulatory requirements
- Ensure all practices align with organisational, accreditation and licensing standards
Essential Selection Criteria
- Diploma of Children’s Services (or ACECQA approved equivalent) with at least 6 months post‑qualification experience
- Ability to lead and guide educators in delivering high‑quality early learning programs
- Strong understanding of child development from birth to 5 years
- Knowledge of behaviour guidance strategies
- Ability to plan culturally appropriate programs
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work respectfully and effectively with the Tasmanian Aboriginal community
- Basic digital literacy and ability to use organisational systems
- Understanding of the services and values of the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre
Pre‑Employment Requirements
Appointment is subject to completion of relevant pre‑employment checks, including:
- First Aid and CPR
- Working with Vulnerable People (Child related activity) Registration
- National Police Check
- COVID‑19 and Influenza vaccination
- Government child safeguarding training
What We Offer
- Salary range $70,000 – $86,000 pa + Salary Packaging
- 16% Superannuation
