The Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre (TAC) is a proud Aboriginal community-controlled organisation, committed to strengthening culture, supporting self-determination, and improving outcomes for the palawa community.
We are seeking a Cultural Awareness Coordinator to coordinate, develop and deliver TAC’s Cultural Awareness Training (CAT) program for external fee-paying organisations and internal TAC staff. This role ensures the program is culturally grounded, community led, high quality, and financially sustainable, strengthening understanding of Tasmanian Aboriginal history, culture, governance and contemporary issues.
About the role
Reporting to the Division Manager, Country and Culture, you will work closely with Country and Culture staff, cultural knowledge holders, the Healthy Country Unit and RTO staff to revitalise and expand cultural awareness delivery, support the development of new trainers, and ensure compliance with organisational, accreditation and child safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
· Deliver Cultural Awareness Training to internal and external participants in a culturally safe and respectful way
· Coordinate planning, scheduling and end-to-end delivery of the CAT program
· Review, develop and maintain training content, resources and materials
· Respond to training enquiries and develop tailored training to meet organisational needs
· Supervise and support Cultural Awareness Assistants and training support staff
· Maintain training records, files, correspondence and documentation in line with TAC requirements
· Support invoicing and payment processes for fee-paying training delivery
· Work with RTO staff to support accreditation and compliance (where applicable)
· Support and participate in On Country activities and community education initiatives as required
· Ensure all activities align with TAC Child Safe policies, protocols, and Code of Conduct
About you
You are an organised, confident communicator and facilitator who can coordinate multiple moving parts while keeping cultural integrity and community expectations at the centre of the work. You will bring:
· Demonstrated ability to work in culturally safe ways aligned with Tasmanian Aboriginal community values
· Experience (or strong capability) delivering training, education, facilitation or community-based programs
· Strong coordination skills (planning, scheduling, stakeholders, records and resources)
· Professional communication skills and culturally respectful presentation
· Digital literacy and confidence using organisational systems (e.g., Microsoft 365)
· Knowledge of, or willingness to develop knowledge of, TAC services and issues impacting Aboriginal communities
· Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
