Muylatina Milaythina Junior Ranger Program

The Muylatina Milaythina Junior Ranger Program is a Palawa led initiative that supports Tasmanian Aboriginal young people to grow strong in identity, culture, and Country. Grounded in the belief that Palawa luwutina rrala milaythina-ti  Tasmanian Aboriginal children are strong in Country, the program creates opportunities for youth to learn, lead, and connect through meaningful experiences On Country.

Through the spirit of muylatina milaythina  (embracing Country)  young people deepen their understanding of their community, culture, and environment while building pride, belonging, and connection to family and community across Lutruwita. The program brings community together to share knowledge across generations, with Elders, Rangers, and skilled partners guiding learning through cultural practice and lived experience.

Participants explore topics such as biodiversity, fire management, marine environments, shellfish and seabirds, kelp reefs, tides, traditional seasonal calendars, sky Country and caring for Country. These experiences build cultural knowledge and strengthen responsibilities as future custodians of Land, Sky and Sea Country.

The program also empowers youth leadership by giving young people a voice in shaping the program, while creating pathways to training, accreditation, and future opportunities. By combining cultural learning with education and practical skills, the program supports Aboriginal youth to be strong in community, proud in identity, and confident to dream big
